Green County Development Corporation Awarded State Grant to Boost Local Dairy Exports
MONROE, WI – Green County Development Corporation (GCDC) has been awarded $62,770 in grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) to strengthen the region’s dairy export capabilities and position Wisconsin dairy producers for greater global success.
The funding, part of DATCP’s strategic initiative to expand Wisconsin’s agricultural exports, will support GCDC in conducting a cold chain and export logistics feasibility study, addressing supply chain gaps, and enhancing research and development efforts in export readiness.
The dairy industry in Wisconsin contributes $52.8 billion to our economy. The 5,300 dairy farms in the state produce 25% of the nation’s cheese. In Green County there are 12 cheese plants utilizing milk from over 260 dairy farms.
“Wisconsin’s dairy industry is one of the strongest in the world, and Green County plays a vital role in that legacy,” said Olivia Otte, Executive Director of GCDC. “This grant allows us to explore how we can better support local producers and processors by improving export infrastructure and identifying new international market opportunities.”
The project will focus on three key areas:
- Feasibility Study: An in-depth analysis of cold chain logistics and export infrastructure needs in southern Wisconsin to ensure high-quality dairy products can reach global markets efficiently.
- Supply Chain Assistance: Identification and support for addressing gaps in transportation, packaging, and distribution systems that hinder dairy exports.
- Export Readiness R&D: Development of tools, resources, and training to prepare producers and processors to meet international demand and regulatory standards.
The initiative aligns with Wisconsin’s broader effort to grow its agricultural export footprint and enhances the competitiveness of small and medium-sized agribusinesses.
“We’re grateful to DATCP for recognizing the importance of regional leadership in strengthening our state’s agricultural economy,” said Otte. “With this support, we’re not just investing in exports — we’re investing in the future of Wisconsin dairy.”

Green County Development Corporation (GCDC) is launching a program aimed at meeting the Adoption and Sustainability core values in Wisconsin’s Digital Equity Plan. The vision of this plan is to make sure all Wisconsinites have access to affordable broadband service and are able to engage in a digital society.
As work to expand broadband continues throughout Green County, additional needs indicated a lack of digital equipment, i.e. laptops and other devices to connect people digitally. In partnership with other local groups, GCDC is launching the Green County Tech Connect program.
This program will bring refurbished computers and similar devices to eligible Green County residents and entities at no cost. All applicants must live or work in Green County. Low-income people participating or eligible for government assistance, individuals 60 and over, veterans, students, non-profit organizations, and businesses in existence less than one year may qualify.
Dan Wiliams, Green County Human Services Director had this to say about the program’s value, “This program will empower low-income individuals to bridge the digital divide, providing them with the tools they need to apply for benefits, further their education, search for jobs, and ultimately help them achieve financial stability. This initiative not only enhances their access to opportunities but also helps them build the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”
Devices will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. An application must be completed and can be obtained by calling 608-328-9452 or emailing gcdc@greencountydevelopment.com. More information can also be found on GCDC’s website at https://greencountydevelopment.com/live-work/. Every three months GCDC will follow up with awardees to ensure proper use of the device.
